I have cash for my cards. Which one do I pay first?

Two smart ways to split the same money. One moves your score faster. The other saves more interest. See both side by side.

How to split the money
Interest saved per year is an estimate: amount paid × APR, assuming the balance would otherwise sit there for a year. Real interest depends on daily balances and new purchases. Utilization is only as good as what's on your statement closing date.

Common myth: "Paying off the biggest balance helps my score most." The score looks at utilization, total and per card. $1,000 that takes a $1,500 / $2,000 card from 75% to 25% can do more than the same $1,000 on a $9,000 balance.

Next steps

  1. Applying for a mortgage in the next 1–3 months? Use the score-first split, and pay before each statement closing date.
  2. Not buying soon? Interest first saves real money. Then set autopay so no payment is ever late.
  3. Check every card's utilization after paying with T231, then your full picture in T230.
